League City Kids Buckle Up

"Keeping the children of League City healthy and safe is a primary objective of the League City Police Officer's Association," says LCPOA President, Bryan Campbell. The organization recently purchased and donated two child safety seats to the League City Police Department for use when transporting the city's younger citizens.

"We periodically have a need to transport children, whether they are lost or simply require our help, and we want to do this in the safest manner possible," stated Officer Campbell. "This not only protects the children, but it serves to provide our officers with those less common pieces of equipment that are necessary to effectively do their job."

"Items such as car seats are of great benefit for our police department as it is difficult for the city to anticipate and afford all the ancillary, yet valuable, equipment needed," said Assistant Police Chief, Chris Reed. "We appreciate LCPOA's generous gift."

The new car seats, designed to accommodate infants, toddlers, and small children, are embroidered with a League City Police and police association identification patch specially designed by fabrication and decal experts at SPACEHAB, Inc. headquartered in Webster.

SPACEHAB, a leading commercial aerospace company that donated their time and materials for this project, has a sewing lab and a decal design and production facility that develop unique equipment for use by NASA in space and for astronaut training purposes on the ground. Crew sleeping bags, soft-stowage cargo transport bags, specialty signs and on-orbit decals are commonly manufactured and used on the space shuttle and International Space Station. SPACEHAB's Fred Utley, lead for sewing operations, stated "Many SPACEHAB employees live in League City and the surrounding area, so we were excited about donating our services for this project."

As a reminder to parents, children age eight and under should be strapped into a properly installed child seat, and all kids age 12 and under should be securely fastened into the vehicle's back seat.
