SPACEHAB and subsidiaries granted full ISO certification to the ISO 9001:2000 standard

SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, today announced that the Company, along with its Johnson Engineering and Astrotech subsidiaries, has been granted full ISO certification to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. The Company achieved the original certification, to the ISO 9001:1994 standard, in January 2000 and was found to be in compliance to the upgraded standard during recent surveillance audits.

SPACEHAB incorporates the ISO quality system into all its business practices and is in full compliance with industry standards. Since the quality management system was implemented, the Company has recognized the value of the standard's effectiveness in controlling and improving the quality of products and services being provided to its government and industry clients, especially to its NASA customer.

With support from SPACEHAB, NASA just completed another successful space mission, STS-105. As the Company's seventeenth mission, SPACEHAB provided the Integrated Cargo Carrier (ICC), an equipment pallet designed to ferry precious cargo to the International Space Station. During recent processing of the ICC for this mission at SPACEHAB's Payload Processing Facility (SPPF), one of the locations certified to the new standard, the ISO process mandated strict documentation practices to reflect recent updates and enhancements in SPACEHAB launch preparations. These processes ensure that the tasks are performed in a uniform manner and define a repeatable path to yield the same successful products and services for subsequent missions.

During the ISO audits, conducted by OTS Quality Registrars, Inc., four SPACEHAB locations were evaluated under the new standard including the headquarters operations and contract support functions in Houston, Texas; the SPPF and Astrotech operations in Florida; and SPACEHAB Huntsville operations in Alabama. In all, SPACEHAB has eleven sites that are ISO 9001:2000 registered. ISO certification is valid for three years and the Company is subject to semi-annual surveillance audits during this time.

Founded in 1984, with more than $100 million in annual revenue, SPACEHAB, Inc. is a leading provider of commercial space services. The company develops, owns, and operates habitat and laboratory modules and cargo carriers for NASA's Space Shuttles. It also supports astronaut training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston and provides microgravity research services through its Alabama operations. SPACEHAB's Astrotech subsidiary provides commercial satellite processing services for expendable launch vehicle programs, including the Lockheed Martin Atlas, the Boeing Delta and Sea Launch. SPACEHAB's newest strategic growth initiative, Space Media, Inc.™, brings space into homes and classrooms worldwide with television and Internet broadcasting from the International Space Station.
