SPACEHAB
Expands by Opening Office in Huntsville, Alabama
SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:
SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, has opened a corporate
office in Huntsville, Alabama, at 600 Boulevard South. The office is headed
by SPACEHAB's Vice President and General Manager of Huntsville Operations,
Carolyn Griner.
SPACEHAB has maintained
a company presence in Huntsville since 1997 and has contributed to the
Huntsville economy over the past 10 years through its contracts with McDonnell
Douglas (now The Boeing Company) for the integration and operation of
its fleet of Space Shuttle carriers. The establishment of a Huntsville
office signal's SPACEHAB's interest in expanding its activities with NASA's
Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and other aerospace companies and
customers in the Huntsville area.
Carolyn Griner joined
SPACEHAB in order to establish the Huntsville office. Recently retired
from the MSFC, Griner brings over 30 years of valuable experience to the
SPACEHAB team. Griner's most recent and distinguished role was as Deputy
Director of MSFC, one of NASA's nine Centers. With management accountability
of a $2.5 billion budget, Griner was responsible for overseeing the vast
activities of more than 2600 civil service and 4000 on-site contractor
personnel. "I am excited about making the transition to industry
after a great career in the government sector," said Griner. She
added "SPACEHAB is an innovative company with a great vision of space
commerce, and I am proud to be a part of the team."
SPACEHAB, through
its Microgravity Alliance comprised of several key Huntsville-based aerospace
and technology organizations, is now poised to support the growing microgravity
research and support needs of NASA and its customers. This strategic partnership
intends to respond to a request for proposals from MSFC to provide the
center with "Level III" microgravity research support. The contract
could cover up to 10 years and $800 million in business.
Founded in 1984 and
with more than $100 million in annual revenue, SPACEHAB is the first company
to commercially develop, own, and operate habitable modules and carriers
that provide laboratory facilities and logistics resupply aboard NASA's
Space Shuttles. The company also supports astronaut training at NASA's
Johnson Space Center in Houston and provides commercial satellite processing
services for Boeing and Lockheed Martin expendable launch vehicles near
Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
