SPACEHAB's
Carolyn Griner Elected to Fellow of AIAA and to the Board of Directors
SPACEHAB,
Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services,
today announced that Carolyn Griner, SPACEHAB Vice President and General
Manager of Huntsville Operations, was awarded to the grade of Fellow in
the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Griner
was also elected to their distinguished Board of Directors.
Presented at the AIAA
Global Air and Space 2001 International Business Forum held in Arlington,
Virginia this month, Ms. Griner was inducted as Fellow and honored for
her notable and valuable contributions to science and technology. One
Fellow for every 1,000 voting members is elected each year. Further, Ms.
Griner was the sole female in that award designation as well as the only
female in any AIAA annual award category outside the teacher category.
Officially formed
in 1963, the purpose of AIAA is to advance the arts, sciences, and technology
of aeronautics and astronautics, and to promote the professionalism of
those engaged in these pursuits. As a member of the Board of Directors,
Griner will lead the Engineering & Technology Management Group whose
charter includes diverse technical committees such as Systems Engineering,
Aerospace Economics, Law, Aerospace History, and Management.
Ms. Griner joined
SPACEHAB in March 2001 in order to establish a SPACEHAB presence in Huntsville,
Alabama, home of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Recently
retired from MSFC where she was the Deputy Director, Griner brings over
30 years of valuable experience to the SPACEHAB team.
Ms. Griner recently
established a Microgravity Alliance comprised of several key Huntsville-based
aerospace and technology organizations to support the growing microgravity
research and infrastructure needs of NASA and its customers. This strategic
partnership intends to respond to a request for proposals from MSFC, expected
in July, to provide the center with microgravity research support.
Founded in 1984 and
with more than $100 million in annual revenue, SPACEHAB is the first company
to commercially develop, own, and operate habitable modules and carriers
that provide laboratory facilities and logistics resupply aboard NASA's
Space Shuttles. The company also supports astronaut training at NASA's
Johnson Space Center in Houston and provides commercial satellite processing
services for Boeing and Lockheed Martin expendable launch vehicles near
Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
