Houston, Texas, April 19, 2001 - SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, today announced that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $10 million contract to SPACEHAB subsidiary, Johnson Engineering, for Configuration Management support to the International Space Station (ISS) program. Johnson Engineering (JE), has led award-winning ISS Configuration Management activities on behalf of NASA since August 1997. Under this new contract, which covers a performance period of almost three years, JE will provide ISS data and change management, configuration status accounting and auditing, and logistics associated with Space Station component acceptance and flight readiness activities to NASA and other ISS International Partners. "We are exceptionally pleased that we can continue to provide this valuable service to NASA," said Tom Short, Senior Vice President, Johnson Engineering. He added, "As the prime contractor on this initiative, we are very committed to the space program and the successful completion of the International Space Station." With subcontractor support from System Studies & Simulation Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama, JE has already received orders to begin work under the contract. In fulfilling this new contract, JE will be building on the expertise that it currently offers to NASA. JE provides facility management and astronaut training services under a contract with NASA's Johnson Space Center Flight Crew Systems Division. Support on this contract began in 1993 and the Division recently extended the performance period for an additional year. Founded in
1984, with more than $100 million in annual revenue, SPACEHAB, Inc. is a leading
provider of commercial space services and the first to develop, own, and operate
habitat and research modules and cargo carriers for NASA's Space Shuttles. It
also supports astronaut training and configuration management at NASA's Johnson
