SPACEHAB's Engineering Services Unit Achieves Major Safety Milestone
1,000 Days Without a Lost Time/Days Away Case

Houston, TX, December 7, 2000 - SPACEHAB, Inc.'s Engineering Services unit, which provides engineering and operations support to NASA's Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF) at Johnson Space Center (JSC), reached a major safety milestone at the SVMF this week - 1,000 Days Without a Lost Time/Days Away Case.

Days Without a Lost Time/Days Away Case is a safety metric established by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

In a ceremony held December 4 at JSC, Center Director George W.S. Abbey presented a certificate recognizing this accomplishment to SPACEHAB's SVMF Safety Coordinator Jesse Zapata. "We really appreciate Mr. Abbey being here to make this presentation, and I am honored to accept it on behalf of all of my fellow employees who are committed to working safely at the SVMF," Zapata said.

The ceremony also highlighted the contributions of the five-member "self-directed work team" that helps Zapata promote safe practices at the SVMF. "Everyone in our company considers safety as our top priority," said Zapata, "but our focus on safety through employee involvement programs such as our self-directed work team makes it happen."

The SVMF houses full-scale mockups of the Space Shuttle and components of the International Space Station (ISS). Astronauts use this facility to train for space flights and ISS assembly tasks. In addition to supporting SVMF operations, SPACEHAB Engineering Services, formerly Johnson Engineering, also supports astronaut training at JSC's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) and builds mockups and trainers for the SVMF and the NBL.

Founded in 1984, with more than $100 million in annual revenue, SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), is a leading provider of commercial space services. The company is the first to develop, own, and operate habitat modules and cargo carriers providing laboratory facilities and resupply capabilities aboard NASA's Space Shuttles. It also supports astronaut training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, builds space-flight trainers and mockups. SPACEHAB's Astrotech subsidiary provides commercial satellite processing services at facilities in Florida and California in support of a range of expendable launch vehicles, including Lockheed Martin's Atlas and Boeing's Delta and Sea Launch rockets. SPACEHAB's newest strategic growth initiative, Space Media, Inc. (SMI™, a subsidiary), will bring space into homes and classrooms worldwide with television and Internet broadcasting from the International Space Station.
