SPACEHAB GIVES TEXAS STUDENTS ACCESS TO SPACE;
S*T*A*R*S Donation Marks Company's Commitment to Education and Community

Washington, D.C., November 2, 2000 - SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SPAB), a leading provider of commercial space services, and its subsidiary, Space Media, Inc.™, today announced that SPACEHAB will sponsor opportunities for schools in Texas City, Clear Lake, and other communities in southeast Texas to participate in Space Media's S*T*A*R*S® global space education program.

SPACEHAB is responding to a call from U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson (D-9th-TX) for businesses to support public education in their communities. SPACEHAB's operations in Texas include its Engineering Services and Flight Services units in Houston-Clear Lake. The company's Enterprise™ commercial space station habitat program is also based in the area, and Space Media has operations there as well. Rep. Lampson's district includes the Clear Lake area, Texas City, and other communities in the vicinity of Houston.

S*T*A*R*S (Space Technology And Research Students) is a global education initiative designed to engage students in science and technology and enable them to share in the excitement of space research and exploration. Texas students who participate in the S*T*A*R*S program will have access to online educational resources and activities and the opportunity to take part in an actual experiment to be flown in space in 2001.

Rep. Lampson and Space Media Vice President and former astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris announced SPACEHAB's donation at Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary School in Texas City, Texas. Roosevelt-Wilson is one of 10 Texas schools that will participate in S*T*A*R*S.

"I thank SPACEHAB and Space Media for their contribution to local schools, which provides students a great opportunity to participate in space exploration through an innovative educational program such as S*T*A*R*S," said Rep. Lampson. "As a former science teacher, I see how the S*T*A*R*S program really helps get students interested in science and math and enables them to learn about high technology careers. SPACEHAB's contribution is an example of how businesses can help their local communities and encourage young people to aim high and achieve great things."

"I thank Congressman Lampson for encouraging more local business participation in our school system," said Texas City Independent School District Superintendent David Simmons. "S*T*A*R*S provides an excellent curriculum-based math and science program, which encourages students to learn more about science and math by engaging them in an interactive environment. Through S*T*A*R*S, SPACEHAB is helping to inspire young minds to dream about possibilities in space."

"As an aerospace business that has been operating in Clear Lake for more than a decade, we believe it is important that we give back to the local community," said Dr. Harris. "We are committed to providing young people opportunity, education, and inspiration through participation in our worldwide S*T*A*R*S program."

Space Media also announced the official kickoff of its classroom S*T*A*R*S website, www.starsprogram.com, which will allow students and teachers in the S*T*A*R*S program to use Web-based lessons. SPACEHAB's sponsorship of Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary and other Texas schools gives students and teachers access to lessons and other activities that will be placed online throughout the rest of this year.
