SPACEHAB JOINS NATIONAL SPACE LEADERS IN SPACE SUMMIT
Helping NASA Plan for the New Millennium

Washington, DC, July 23, 1999 – SPACEHAB's own Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr. will join space leaders such as NASA's Joseph Rothenberg and Captain John Young at a space summit to discuss the past, present and future of human space exploration.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first lunar landing, U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson (D-TX) is hosting this event to review the grand accomplishments of previous space programs and address the goals for year 2000 and beyond.

"I am particularly pleased that Dr. Harris, who has spent his career exploring new ways to heal the sick, will be joining me at Friday's Space Summit," said Lampson from his Capital Hill office. "It is evident to me that the future of medical research in space, like that conducted by Dr. Harris and the human space exploration program at NASA, is not only important to Texas, but to the entire nation."

Dr. Harris, SPACEHAB Vice President of Science and Health Services, will speak on a panel entitled "The Future of Civil Space" where he will address medical research issues associate with long-term space flight.

The Space Summit is scheduled for Friday, July 23 from 2:00 – 4:00pm at United Space Alliance Headquarters in Houston, Texas.
