SPACEHAB Ranked Most Competitive Small Aerospace Firm
Aviation Week & Space Technology Hails
SPACEHAB as "Best Managed" Company in its Class
VIENNA, Va. (BUSINESS WIRE) Aug. 12, 1998 — SPACEHAB,
Inc., the leading commercial services company supporting
manned and unmanned space missions, has been named the "most competitive''
and "best managed'' small aerospace company in the world by the
respected industry weekly, Aviation Week & Space Technology.
The McGraw-Hill publication also awarded SPACEHAB the highest
score for asset utilization and third-highest productivity score
for all aerospace companies considered in the ranking of more
than 100 firms, large and small. The rankings were published in
Aviation Week's annual Competitiveness Issue, released August
10, 1998. Noting that "the best overall performing aerospace companies
aren't necessarily the leviathans,'' Aviation Week's editors saluted
SPACEHAB as "a pioneer in what may be the aerospace industry's
most exciting growth market in the 21st century: commercial space.''
The editors continued, "In the course of expanding its business
(SPACEHAB) has demonstrated extraordinary levels of asset utilization.
That and employee productivity are what drove the 14-year-old
company to top in its peer group.''
To earn the "Best Managed'' title, companies had to demonstrate
strong performance across the board, operationally as well as
financially, and management had to show evidence of balancing
short- and long-term goals, the editors said.
SPACEHAB President David A. Rossi welcomed the award, saying,
"SPACEHAB and its subsidiaries, Astrotech and Johnson Engineering,
plan to continue providing first-rate, innovative products and
services to our civil and commercial customers. Our recognized
competitiveness will help us achieve our goal of being the premier
space services provider in the 21st century,'' Rossi said.
SPACEHAB, with its Astrotech and Johnson Engineering subsidiaries,
is the world's leading provider of commercial payload processing
services for manned and unmanned payloads. SPACEHAB is the first
company to commercially develop, own and operate habitable modules
that provide laboratory facilities and logistics re-supply aboard
NASA's Space Shuttles. The Company also supports NASA astronaut
training at Johnson Space Center, Houston.
