NEW RELATIONSHIP WITH NOVESPACE COMPLETES FINAL STEP
IN SPACEHABS MICROGRAVITY STAIRCASE SPACEHAB Offers Researchers Choice of Ground-based,
Sub-orbital and Space-based Facilities
Vienna, VA, June
30, 1998 -- A series of recent agreements has enabled SPACEHAB, Inc. (Nasdaq:
SPAB), the leading commercial space services company, to establish
a Microgravity Staircase, a comprehensive portfolio of ground-based,
sub-orbital and space-based microgravity research facilities designed
to meet a variety of needs and budgets.
Under an arrangement announced today with NOVESPACE, S.A. the
leading European provider of microgravity parabolic flight opportunities,
SPACEHAB plans to market and sell flights aboard NOVESPACEs Airbus-300
Zero-G aircraft to U.S. users for scientific and technological
experiments. This new relationship complements those established
with other companies earlier this summer to provide lower- and
upper-level steps of the progressive Microgravity Staircase.
Previous deals have included a June 19 agreement with Guigné Technologies
Limited to market space aboard the revolutionary SpaceDRUMSTM
microgravity processing facility; a June 18 agreement with Daimler-Benz
Aerospace AG to market sounding rocket flight opportunities; and
SPACEHABs May 7 acquisition of the free-flying Wake Shield Facility.
With the Staircase in place, SPACEHAB now offers government, commercial
and academic customers research opportunities aboard a variety
of platforms. Each step in the staircase offers a different duration
of microgravity exposure, providing researchers steadily increasing
periods of microgravity as their experiments progress in complexity
and level of funding.
Our Microgravity Staircase provides experiment processing and
testing through all phases of microgravity research, from small,
university-class payloads to dedicated government-sponsored science
missions, SPACEHAB President David A. Rossi said. Whether a
given experiment requires a 30-second ride aboard a parabolic
aircraft, a 15-minute trip aboard a sub-orbital rocket, or a few
days stay on an orbiting platform, SPACEHAB will be able to provide
processing and servicing before, during and after flight, Rossi
said.
SPACEHAB, with its ASTROTECH subsidiary, is the worlds leading
provider of commercial payload processing services for both astronaut-tended
and unmanned payloads. SPACEHAB is the first company to commercially
develop, own and operate habitable modules that provide space-based
laboratory facilities and logistics resupply aboard the U.S. Space
Shuttles to support the people living and working in space. |
