Vienna, Virginia, November 19, 1997 — The Board of Directors of SPACEHAB, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAB) has elected Mr. Giuseppe Viriglio as Director, replacing retiring Board Member, Professor Ernesto Vallerani. Mr. Viriglio is the head of Alenia Aerospazio's Space Division. Previously, he held the positions of Deputy General Manager and General Manager during his six-year career at Alenia Spazio. His aerospace career began in 1973 when he was appointed Project Controller of the Spacelab program at AERITALIA, a project he remained associated with through 1979. Mr. Viriglio, an Aerospace Engineering Graduate of the Polytechnic University of Turin, has been widely published on space issues with particular reference to economic, management, and political aspects. Dr. Shelley A. Harrison, SPACEHAB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented on Mr. Viriglio's appointment: "SPACEHAB is fortunate to have added an individual as distinguished as Mr. Viriglio. His extensive experience in the international aerospace industry and wealth of knowledge of human space flight will certainly be an asset to SPACEHAB's Board. " Professor Ernesto Vallerani retires from the SPACEHAB Board of Directors after seven years of service. "Professor Vallerani was instrumental in assisting SPACEHAB throughout its formative years and in helping us grow to be the leading commercial space services provider," said Dr. Harrison. "Although we will miss the enthusiasm, dedication and over 30 years of experience in international aerospace projects that Professor Vallerani brought to our Board, we wish him continued success in all of his endeavors," he added.
